No one should be surprised that FAST FIVE topped the box office this past weekend. There was practically zero competition. But what you probably will be surprised at just how much dough the film managed to rake in. Early numbers have the fifth film in the series on pace to total over $80 million in three days. That’s insane for a fifth installment in a franchise. I’ will admit that the film was GREAT,.It should be noted that FAST FIVE is now the highest grossing film in Universal Studios history (yes, bigger than JURASSIC PARK and its sequels) The other new movie of the weekend was Disney’s PROM, which came in fifth. Analysts are saying that makes it a flop, but for a movie about high school that has no name stars in it and it doesn’t involve singing, I don’t think anyone should scoff at $4 million.
